kevin sites blog ... and i quote ...

pausing the warblog, for now.

Dear readers:

I've been asked to suspend my war blogging for awhile.

But I don't want let you down -- I'm chronicling the events of my war experiences, the same as I always have, and hope to come to agreement with CNN in the near future to make them available to you in some shape or form, perhaps on this site.

In the meantime, thanks for participating in this remarkable forum. It's been a remarkable experience to be your witness here.

-- Kevin Sites.

due to its special importance, following is a repeat of the last dispatch!!

idf homefront command: israeli public to open, fit and carry protective kits
the idf homefront command instructed israelis today (march 19, 2003) to open their protective kits, assemble them according to the enclosed instructions and to try them on. israelis are reminded that prior to attaching the air filter to the gas mask, they must remove the plastic cover from the air filter. after trying on and fitting the gas mask, each citizen should return the mask to its protective kit fully assembled.

those using gas masks with air pumps should be certain to always activate the pump prior to putting on the mask and to turn it off immediately upon removing the mask.

the homefront command emphasizes that children fitting their masks should only do so in the presence and with the assistance of an adult.

it is important to note that the atropine shot should not be removed from the box, and both masks and shots should be placed out of the reach of children.

information on how to use the protective kits is enclosed in the kits themselves and is available in the booklet that was distributed by the homefront command, from the idf website (www.idf.il), or from the instructional videos broadcast in various languages on channel 33.

the homefront command has asked that, beginning thursday, march 20, 2003, the israeli public carry their protective kits with them at all times and until further notice.

:: war[ning] call-up ::
besides being told to prepare our sealed rooms, i see that there was a reservist call-up too ... interesting fact as to who was called up ...“the reservists called up with emergency orders monday night were from the chemical and biological weapons detection units of the ‘home front command’, intelligence officers, and anti-aircraft units. the soldiers represent the ‘core elements’ of these emergency units, and if necessary additional reservists would be called up for duty” ... read the whole israelinsider article ...

well, the time is drawing closer for us ... yesterday, monday 17, we were told to make sure we are prepared and ready ... today, tuesday 18, we have been issued an order by the minister of defense and home front command, to seal our rooms, but not to open our gas mask kits yet ... i must say, that it gives you a pretty scary feeling ...

to see what being prepared is all about, head on over to the idf [israel defense force] site, and here’s a direct link to ‘getting and being prepared’ from the home front command section.
